Annual Iftar Party Success
Not a single crumb of food was left by the end of this dinner and you are about to find out exactly why.
Iftar is a term used to describe the meal) that Muslim's break their fast with during Ramadan. To give context, Ramadan is the 9th holy month of the Islamic calendar. During this entire month, Muslims observe Ramadan by fasting from sunrise to sunset, and after sunset is where they have their ‘iftar’ meal. Iftar is usually eaten with family and friends to make the experience more intimate.

This year, a friend of mine hosted a mini iftar party with my help. There was a huge variety of food, which you can all see in the videos below.
To begin, I made a mini plate of mac and cheese as a side, with saucy sweet and sour shrimp and chicken strips to top it off, which was a crowd pleaser.
Alongside this, there were also three other sides which consisted of: deep fried plantain lightly dusted with Himalayan salt to generate both a sweet and savoury flavour, homemade meat and vegetable stuffed samosas and lastly a chicken Caesar salad.
I also contributed by making two different types of chicken: jerk style BBQ wings and Korean style gochujang wings garnished with sesame seeds.
The mains consisted of chicken and sausage egg fried rice, which was cooked to perfection. The combination of both the chicken and sausage complemented each other really well and elevated the rice to the next level.
The other main dish was a creamy mince pasta topped with fresh parsley.
Lastly for dessert, there was a mix of Krispy Kreme donuts, cupcakes and cookies, with a platter of different fruits to balance the sweetness.
