What I Ate During My Vacation In Mexico (P2)

More on the breakfast buffet bar
In addition to the bakery assortment previously mentioned, there was an omelette bar where you could personalise your own omelette, which I, of course took advantage of by adding every topping imaginable. This was made by the breakfast chef, who put on a highly entertaining performance whilst doing so.
On to the drinks bar, the juice was freshly squeezed, and coffee freshly brewed, with the smell instantly creating a comforting aroma.
I have to mention I am definitely not a morning person, even whilst on vacation but this hotel encouraged me to be up at 8am every morning, with breakfast being the highlight of my day.
Risotto Restaurant
Italian food is one of my favourite cuisines, so I was very excited to try this out. The service here was exceptional - the staff were extremely friendly and made sure to explain, in detail, where each meal originated from as well as the name and ingredients.
I had a total of three meals at this restaurant, which I had never tried before.
For starters, I had an arugula salad with a mango and lime dressing, garnished with thinly sliced almonds. I had an assortment of bread rolls accompanied with this.
For my main meal, I had a chicken alfredo, with the linguine smothered in a rich, creamy sauce, topped with juicy cherry tomatoes.
Lastly, for dessert I had a classic tiramisu topped with fruits.
For my drink, I had a refreshing strawberry daiquiri, topped with a cherry.
Restaurant rating: 9/10.
Ayami
This is an authentic Japanese restaurant which serves a limited set of dishes including traditional sushi, soups, fried rice etc.
For my starter, I had miso soup, which was so warm, delicious & comforting that it felt like home.
For my main, I ordered the chicken fried rice since I’m not the biggest fan of sushi and it did not disappoint!
I had the privilege of watching the chef prepare my meal right in front of me since the grill was in the middle of the dining table.
He put on a highly entertaining performance, showing off tricks and stunts with the food, such as making an onion layer tower.
For dessert I had passionfruit ice cream, since there was not a good range of other options available.
The service was impeccable due to the performance & waiter interactions, which took my overall experience to the next level.
The only criticism I have is the food portions, which were smaller than expected. Also, the desserts menu was very limited and didn’t have traditional Japanese/Mexican desserts. They could have served mochi ice cream to represent Japanese food culture, which would have been fitting for the restaurant.
Restaurant rating: 8/10
The Grill
This was my least favourite restaurant. The presentation of the food was good but in my opinion, the food was quite bland. I had the highest expectation for this restaurant out of all the other ones since it appeared quite unique with the outdoor grill and all, but I have to say it left me highly disappointed.
I only ordered a main at this restaurant as I didn’t feel like having a starter or dessert due to the options not appealing to me.
The worst thing that happened here was when I was served an alcoholic drink after specifically asking for a mocktail (due to not drinking alcohol for religious reasons), which I assume was an honest mistake made by the waiter and I tried to be understanding of this, but it was quite frustrating because I accidentally drank some of it.
Restaurant rating: 3/10
Overall, I enjoyed the majority of meals I had during my stay at the hotel. One thing I highly regret is not branching out of my comfort zone to eat at restaurants outside the hotel, apart from the food tour excursion that I participated in, where I was able to try a small portion of traditional Mexican food and drinks from several mini restaurants. However, other than this I mainly ate at the hotel to make use of the all-inclusive privilege, which is something I’ll make sure to change up next time.
